Adult ADHD Assessment changes
From 1st February 2026 The Ministry of Health and Pharmac changed the rules around how adult ADHD is diagnosed and treated. The majority of people will still require an initial specialist assessment. The changes are mainly going to affect ongoing prescriptions and the follow up, rather than initial diagnosis/treatments. ADHD is a complicated diagnosis which takes time and specialist skills to determine, so it is not something that can be done in a standard GP appointment.
At this stage Manly Medical Centre is not able to offer Adult ADHD assessments. This is because assessments take 1-2hours and require extra specialist training. We currently do not have the staffing or resources to provide this safely. In the future there may be options to see specialist GP’s running ADHD clinics, but this will still come at a cost and it is not clear yet who/where/when these will be offered.
If you already have an ADHD diagnosis nothing will change - please continue to see your GP for ongoing treatment and follow up.

The service is available to anyone in New Zealand, including visitors, and offers support for a wide range of health issues.

If you would not like to go to an A&E, we also have virtual consultations via Care HQ.

Government subsidised consults are available for eligible patients.
Southern Cross members get free consultations through the Southern Cross app.

The Manly Village is centrally located to Stanmore & Arkles Bay, Manly, Tindalls & Matakatia Bays and the growing residential areas of Gulf Harbour. The Medical Centre is one of the longest serving establishments in the village, which also houses a pharmacy, and a range of other retail outlets and cafes.
The village has grown with the general population growth on the Coast and is now a compact, attractive and convenient shopping and leisure destination. There is plenty of parking around the Medical Centre including underground parking with a lift, which is centrally located in the village.

Please advise us if you have respiratory symptoms. Having respiratory symptoms does not mean we can’t see you, but we do need to be aware of this in order to take appropriate precautions. For yours and other people’s safety you will be seen out in the cabin.

Online bookings can only be made with your usual Doctor. If your GP is fully booked online, please phone the surgery for an appointment.
Please note the online booking system is not suitable for booking minor surgery, immunisations, dressings or insurance medicals. Please ring the surgery on 09 424 9050 for these appointments.
Patients that fail to attend their appointment may be charged for the consult.
